Towergate Leeds offices Hospice fundraising tops £32k
10 May 2010
Towergate Professional Risks (TPR), Towergate Risk Solution
Education (TRSE) and two other Towergate Risk Solutions offices
(TRS) in Leeds have all been fundraising for their local hospice,
St. Gemma’s, for over five years. At the end of April they
celebrated raising over £32k, a fantastic contribution to the
charity.
Regular dress-down days are always well supported, but some
colleagues have gone over and above the call of duty to raise
money:
Richard Wigg, at TRSE organised an auction of signed memorabilia
that he has cajoled from various sources. This has proven very
popular, raising thousands.
Phil Davies and Vicky Storr (TRS) have organised a treasure hunt
for the last four years – a competitive but fun night involving
being eagle-eyed, looking for clues and consuming pints in pubs
across the city centre (the combination is not easy for some
people).
In the run up to Christmas, Mark Hughes and his colleagues at
TRS Leeds dressed as Santa and entertained shoppers with their
carol singing.
Then there is John Simpson (TRS). Not only does John participate
in the Windermere Row every year with his Towergate Dynamos team,
but he also agreed to be locked up in a prison cell until he had
raised over £600 ‘bail money’. John received the ‘prison sentence’
from his colleagues after the Christmas party. His cream chino
trousers and choice of shirt had been deemed a ‘crime against
fashion!’
All Towergate Leeds offices have also been great supporters of
various St. Gemma’s fundraising events, including the Winter Ball,
Celebrity Sports Quiz and Dinner, Art Exhibition and It’s A
Knockout.
Commenting on the achievement, St. Gemma’s Hospice Corporate
Fundraising Manager, Elizabeth Baxter, said: “It is amazing that
Towergate staff have raised so much money and in such a variety of
ways. They are a great bunch of people who love to have fun whilst
raising valuable funds for our patients. Their ongoing support is
so important to St. Gemma’s and we are very grateful to all who
work so hard on our behalf.”
Gavin Mitchell, MD of Towergate Professional Risks added: “We
are delighted to support St. Gemma’s, whose care and services are
vital to the Leeds community. I am very proud of all the staff, who
have contributed so much and I am also delighted that the Towergate
Charitable Foundation is matching the sums raised by staff.”
